Now when Gomer had weaned Lo-Ruhamah, she conceived and gave birth to a son.

“I will sow her for Myself in the land.
I will also have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy;
And I will say to those who were not My people,
‘You are My people,’
And they will say, ‘You are my God!’”

In their mother’s womb he took his brother by the heel,
And in his maturity he contended with God.

He wrestled with the angel and prevailed;
He wept [in repentance] and sought His favor.
He met Him at Bethel
And there God spoke with [him and through him with] us—

I knew and regarded you and cared for you in the wilderness,
In the land of drought.
