These are their generations. The first-born of Ishmael was Nebaioth, and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

The sons of Judah: Er and Onan, and Shelah, three born to him from the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the first-born of Judah, was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and He killed him.

Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. And the sons of Zeruiah were Abishai, and Joab, and Asahel, three.

And Segub fathered Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead.

These six were born to him in Hebron. And there he reigned seven years and six months. And he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-three years.

These were all the sons of David, besides the sons of the concubines, and Tamar their sister.

And the sons of Pedaiah: Zerubbabel and Shimei. And the sons of Zerubbabel: Meshullam and Hananiah, and Shelomith their sister,

And the sons of Neariah were Elioenai, and Hezekiah, and Azrikam, three.

And these were of the father of Etam: Jezreel, and Ishma, and Idbash, and the name of their sister was Hazelelponi

These were the potters and those who lived among plants and hedges. They lived there with the king for his work.

And Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters. But his brothers did not have many sons, and all their family did not multiply like the sons of Judah.

and at Beth-marcaboth, and Hazar-susim, and at Beth-birei, and at Shaaraim. These were their cities until the reign of David.

And their villages were Etam, and Ain, Rimmon, and Tochen, and Ashan, five cities,

and all their villages were around these cities, to Baal. These were their homes and their family line.

These going by name were rulers in their families. And the house of their fathers increased greatly.

And they went to the entrance of Gedor, to the east side of the valley, to look for pasture for their flocks.

And they found fertile and good pasture, for the land was wide and quiet and peaceable. For some of the sons of Ham had lived there of old.

And these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and struck their tents, and the homes that were found there, and completely destroyed them until this day, and lived in their places, because there was pasture there for their flocks.

And some of them, of the sons of Simeon, five hundred men went to Mount Seir, having for their captains Pelatiah, and Neariah, and Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.

And they struck the rest which escaped to Amalek, and lived there until this day.

And his brothers by their families, in the genealogy of their generations: Jeiel the chief, and Zechariah,

And he lived as far to the east as the entrance of the wilderness from the river Euphrates, because their cattle were multiplied in the land of Gilead.

And in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand. And they lived in their tents throughout all the east land of Gilead.

And their brothers from the house of their fathers: Michael, and Meshullam, and Sheba, and Jorai, and Jachan, and Zia, and Heber, seven.

Ahi the son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, chief of the house of their fathers.

And they lived in Gilead in Bashan, and in her towns, and in all the open lands of Sharon, on their borders.

And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all who were with them. For they cried to God in the battle, and He was pleased to hear them, because they put their trust in Him.

And they took away their cattle: of their camels, fifty thousand; and of sheep, two hundred fifty thousand, and of asses two thousand, and of men a hundred thousand.

For many fell down slain, because the war was of God. And they lived in their places until the captivity.

And their brothers the sons of Merari stood on the left hand: Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch,

And their brothers, the Levites, were appointed for all kinds of service of the tabernacle of the house of God.

And these are their dwelling-places throughout their camps, within their borders, of the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites, for the lot was theirs.

And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge: Hebron, and Libnah with its open lands, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa with their open lands,

And out of the tribe of Benjamin: Geba with its open lands, and Alemeth with its open lands, and Anathoth with its open lands. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities.

And to the sons of Gershom throughout their families, out of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.

And to the sons of Merari were given by lot, throughout their families, out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

And the sons of Israel gave these cities to the Levites, with their open lands.

And they gave these cities which are called by their names, out of the tribe of the sons of Judah, and out of the tribe of the sons of Simeon, and out of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin.

And some of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities of their borders out of the tribe of Ephraim.

And the sons of Tola: Uzzi, and Rephaiah, and Jeriel, and Jahmai, and Jibsam, and Shemuel, heads of their fathers house, these to Tola, great men of might in their generations. Their number in the days of David was twenty-two thousand and six hundred.

And with them, by their generations, after the house of their fathers, were bands of soldiers for war, thirty-six thousand men. For they had many wives and sons.

And their brothers among all the families of Issachar were great men of might, being in all, by their genealogies, eighty-seven thousand.

The sons of Benjamin: Bela, and Becher, and Jediael, three.

And the sons of Bela: Ezbon, and Uzzi, and Uzziel, and Jerimoth, and Iri, five heads of their fathers' house, mighty men of valor. And their genealogy, twenty-two thousand and thirty-four.

And their genealogy by their generations, heads of their fathers' house, mighty men of valor, twenty thousand and two hundred.

All these were the sons of Jediael, by the heads of their fathers, mighty men of valor, seventeen thousand and two hundred men, going out to war for battle.

and Zabad his son, and Shuthelah his son, and Ezer, and Elead. And the men of Gath, natives in the land, killed them because they came down to take away their cattle.

And Ephraim their father mourned many days, and his brothers came to comfort him.

And their possessions and habitations: Bethel and its towns, and eastward to Naaran, and westward to Gezer, with its towns; and Shechem and its towns, to Gaza and its towns.

The sons of Asher: Imnah, and Ishuah, and Ishuai, and Beriah; and Serah their sister.

And Heber fathered Japhlet, and Shomer, and Hotham, and Shua their sister.

All these were the sons of Asher, heads of their fathers' house, choice, mighty warriors, heads of the rulers. And their enrollment in the warfare in the battle, their number was twenty-six thousand men.

The sons of Elpaal were Eber, and Misham, and Shamed, who built Ono and Lod, with their towns.

These were heads of the fathers, by their generations, chiefs. These lived in Jerusalem.

And Mikloth fathered Shimeah. And these also lived with their brothers in Jerusalem, across from them.

And Azel had six sons, and these their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan. All these were the sons of Azel.

So all Israel enrolled themselves. And behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel. And Judah was exiled to Babylon for their sins.

And the first people in their possessions in their cities were the Israelites, the priests, Levites, and the temple slaves.

And of the sons of Zerah, Jeuel, and their brothers, six hundred and ninety.

and their brothers, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty-six. All these men were chief of the fathers to their fathers' house.

and their brothers, heads of their fathers' house, seventeen hundred and sixty very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.

And the gatekeepers were Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman; and their brothers, Shallum was the chief.

And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brothers, of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle. And their fathers were over the army of Jehovah, keepers of the entry.

All these chosen for gatekeepers in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These by their genealogies, in their villages, were the ones David and Samuel the seer ordained in their set office.

So they and their sons were over the gates of the house of Jehovah, the house of the tabernacle, by watches.

And their brothers in their villages, were to come in for seven days from time to time with them.

And others of the sons of the Kohathites, from among their brothers, were over The Bread of Arrangement, to prepare sabbath by sabbath.

These chief fathers of the Levites were chief throughout their generations. These lived at Jerusalem.

And Mikloth fathered Shimeam. And they also dwelt with their brothers at Jerusalem, across from their brothers.

And to Azel were six sons, and these their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.

And Saul and his three sons died, and all his house died together.

And all the men of Israel in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons had died. And they left their cities and fled. And the Philistines came and lived in them.

And they stripped him, and carried his head and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines all around, to carry news to their idols and to the people.

And they put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his skull in the temple of Dagon.

And all the mighty men arose and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh. And they buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had: Jashobeam, a Hachmonite, the chief of the captains. He lifted up his spear against three hundred, who were killed by him at one time.

And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, he was one of the three mighty ones.

He was with David at Pas-dammim. And there the Philistines were gathered together to battle and a portion of the field was full of barley. And the people fled from before the Philistines.

And three of the mighty captains went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam. And the Philistine army camped in the Valley of the Giants.

And the three broke through the Philistine army and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David. But David would not drink it, but poured it out to Jehovah.

And he said, May my God forbid me to do this thing. Shall I drink the blood of these men who have put their lives in danger? For they brought it with their lives. And he was not willing to drink it. These three mighty ones did these things.

And Abishai the brother of Joab was chief of the three. For lifting up his spear against three hundred, he killed them, and had a name among the three.

Of the three, he was more honorable than the two for he was their captain. However, he did not attain the first three.

These things Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did, and had the name among the three mighty ones.

Behold, he was honorable among the thirty, but did not attain the first three. And David set him over his court.

And of the Gadites mighty men separated themselves to David into the stronghold in the wilderness, men of the army for battle, setting in order shield and buckler, and their faces were the faces of a lion, and as gazelles on the heights for swiftness:

And David went out to meet them, and answered and said to them, If you have come to me in peace, to help me, my heart shall be knit to you. But if you come to betray me to my enemies, since there is no wrong in my hands, let the God of our fathers look on it and rebuke it.

As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him these from Manasseh, Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zillethai, captains of the thousands who were from Manasseh.

And Jehoiada was the leader of the Aaronites, and with him were three thousand and seven hundred.

And the sons of Benjamin, the kindred of Saul were three thousand. And before, the most of them had kept their allegiance to the house of Saul.

And of the sons of Ephraim were twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valor, famous throughout the house of their fathers.

And from the sons of Issachar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, the heads of them were two hundred. And all their brothers were at their command.

And they were with David three days, eating and drinking. For their brothers had prepared food for them.

And also those who were near them, even to Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen. And they brought food, meal, cakes of figs and bunches of raisins, and wine and oil, and oxen and sheep abundantly. For there was joy in Israel.
