Then the Pharisees came and began to argue with Jesus, asking for a sign from heaven to test him.

Then the Lord rained down sulfur and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah. It was sent down from the sky by the Lord.

Make for yourself an ark of cypress wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it with pitch inside and out.
Then the Lord spoke to Moses:
"Speak to Aaron and tell him, 'When you set up the lamps, the seven lamps are to give light in front of the lampstand.'"
And the Lord sent a plague on the people because they had made the calf -- the one Aaron made.
in a moment, in the blinking of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

He said to them, "Watch me and do as I do. Watch closely! I am going to the edge of the camp. Do as I do!

So you must keep my statutes and my regulations; anyone who does so will live by keeping them. I am the Lord.

The Lord announced, "I will also spurn Judah, just as I spurned Israel. I will reject this city that I chose -- both Jerusalem and the temple, about which I said, "I will live there."
Exercise appropriate caution so that there is no negligence in this matter. Why should danger increase to the point that kings sustain damage?"
He captured the fortified cities of Judah and marched against Jerusalem.
She said to the king, "The report I heard in my own country about your wise sayings and insight was true!
Then he told Jeroboam, "Take ten pieces, for this is what the Lord God of Israel says: 'Look, I am about to tear the kingdom from Solomon's hand and I will give ten tribes to you.

When Joab saw that the battle would be fought on two fronts, he chose some of Israel's best men and deployed them against the Arameans.
So Gideon took ten of his servants and did just as the Lord had told him. He was too afraid of his father's family and the men of the city to do it in broad daylight, so he waited until nighttime.
Then they must place on it all its implements with which they serve there -- the trays, the meat forks, the shovels, the basins, and all the utensils of the altar -- and they must spread on it a covering of fine leather, and then insert its poles.
But you, as a person dedicated to God, keep away from all that. Instead pursue righteousness, godliness, faithfulness, love, endurance, and gentleness.
I will destroy your high places and cut down your incense altars, and I will stack your dead bodies on top of the lifeless bodies of your idols. I will abhor you.
When a person touches anything unclean (whether human uncleanness, or an unclean animal, or an unclean detestable creature) and eats some of the meat of the peace offering sacrifice which belongs to the Lord, that person will be cut off from his people.'"
So Joab and his brother Abishai killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel in Gibeon during the battle.
Commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, because he will lead these people over and will enable them to inherit the land you will see."
or when a person swears an oath, speaking thoughtlessly with his lips, whether to do evil or to do good, with regard to anything which the individual might speak thoughtlessly in an oath, even if he did not realize it, but he himself has later come to know it and is guilty with regard to one of these oaths --
Then the high priest must bring some of the blood of the bull to the Meeting Tent,
But what if God, willing to demonstrate his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience the objects of wrath prepared for destruction?

"At the time of the end the king of the south will attack him. Then the king of the north will storm against him with chariots, horsemen, and a large armada of ships. He will invade lands, passing through them like an overflowing river.
They are filled with every kind of unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, malice. They are rife with envy, murder, strife, deceit, hostility. They are gossips,
The traders among the peoples hiss at you; you have become a horror, and will be no more.'"
When you built your chamber at the head of every street and put up your pavilion in every public square, you were not like a prostitute, because you scoffed at payment.
You must be truthful, honest and upright when you take an oath saying, 'As surely as the Lord lives!' If you do, the nations will pray to be as blessed by him as you are and will make him the object of their boasting."
You will die by the sword; I will judge you at the border of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
Surely oppression can turn a wise person into a fool; likewise, a bribe corrupts the heart.
I will thank the Lord for his justice; I will sing praises to the sovereign Lord!
For he does not think much about the fleeting days of his life because God keeps him preoccupied with the joy he derives from his activity.

When the king saw Queen Esther standing in the court, she met with his approval. The king extended to Esther the gold scepter that was in his hand, and Esther approached and touched the end of the scepter.
After them the men of Tekoa worked on another section, from opposite the great protruding tower to the wall of Ophel.
So I gave orders, and it was determined that this city from long ago has been engaging in insurrection against kings. It has continually engaged in rebellion and revolt.
Then build an altar for the Lord your God on the top of this stronghold according to the proper pattern. Take the second bull and offer it as a burnt sacrifice on the wood from the Asherah pole that you cut down."
Three days after they made the treaty with them, the Israelites found out they were from the local area and lived nearby.
He went and found the corpse lying in the road with the donkey and the lion standing beside it; the lion had neither eaten the corpse nor attacked the donkey.
When David later heard about this, he said, "I and my kingdom are forever innocent before the Lord of the shed blood of Abner son of Ner!

When Paul and Barnabas had a major argument and debate with them, the church appointed Paul and Barnabas and some others from among them to go up to meet with the apostles and elders in Jerusalem about this point of disagreement.
For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope, because who hopes for what he sees?
The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands by and listens for him, rejoices greatly when he hears the bridegroom's voice. This then is my joy, and it is complete.
The hired hand, who is not a shepherd and does not own sheep, sees the wolf coming and abandons the sheep and runs away. So the wolf attacks the sheep and scatters them.
And Pharaoh turned and went into his house. He did not pay any attention to this.
So he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in anguish in this fire.'
An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were absolutely terrified.
I have come as a light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me should not remain in darkness.
If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. If he refuses to listen to the church, treat him like a Gentile or a tax collector.

Just then some people brought to him a paralytic lying on a stretcher. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Have courage, son! Your sins are forgiven."
But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the royal delicacies or the royal wine. He therefore asked the overseer of the court officials for permission not to defile himself.
But he answered them, "An evil and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
But Jesus met them, saying, "Greetings!" They came to him, held on to his feet and worshiped him.
Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'There he is!' do not believe him.
Listen to this, you who trample the needy, and do away with the destitute in the land.
Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other."
For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."
That is how they have grown fat and sleek. There is no limit to the evil things they do. They do not plead the cause of the fatherless in such a way as to win it. They do not defend the rights of the poor.
But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded back from you, but who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'
The arrogance of Israel testifies against it; Israel and Ephraim will be overthrown because of their iniquity. Even Judah will be brought down with them.
They will summon a mob who will stone you and hack you in pieces with their swords.
"The prince who is among them will raise his belongings onto his shoulder in darkness, and will go out. He will dig a hole in the wall to leave through. He will cover his face so that he cannot see the land with his eyes.
(The cherubim were standing on the south side of the temple when the man went in, and a cloud filled the inner court.)
Then a wind came into me and stood me on my feet. The Lord spoke to me and said, "Go shut yourself in your house.
Ezra opened the book in plain view of all the people, for he was elevated above all the people. When he opened the book, all the people stood up.
I overpowered kingdoms ruled by idols, whose carved images were more impressive than Jerusalem's or Samaria's.
The Lord said to me, "Tell them, 'The Lord says, Do people not get back up when they fall down? Do they not turn around when they go the wrong way?
Syria has plotted with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah to bring about your demise.
None tire or stumble, they don't stop to nap or sleep. They don't loosen their belts, or unstrap their sandals to rest.
Far be it from you to do such a thing -- to kill the godly with the wicked, treating the godly and the wicked alike! Far be it from you! Will not the judge of the whole earth do what is right?"
He replied, 'I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets.' The Lord said, 'Deceive and overpower him. Go out and do as you have proposed.'
I then put in charge over Jerusalem my brother Hanani and Hananiah the chief of the citadel, for he was a faithful man and feared God more than many do.
After him Meremoth son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz, worked on another section from the door of Eliashib's house to the end of it.
who was the son of Shallum, who was the son of Zadok, who was the son of Ahitub,
"Now if the king is so inclined, let a search be conducted in the royal archives there in Babylon in order to determine whether King Cyrus did in fact issue orders for this temple of God to be rebuilt in Jerusalem. Then let the king send us a decision concerning this matter."
When all Israel's elders had arrived, the Levites lifted the ark.
King Rehoboam consulted with the older advisers who had served his father Solomon when he had been alive. He asked them, "How do you advise me to answer these people?"
He asked them, "How do you advise me to respond to these people who said to me, 'Lessen the demands your father placed on us'?"
Menahem got this silver by taxing all the wealthy men in Israel; he took fifty shekels of silver from each one of them and paid it to the king of Assyria. Then the king of Assyria left; he did not stay there in the land.
He said to them, "Now what have I accomplished compared to you? Even Ephraim's leftover grapes are better quality than Abiezer's harvest!
But if you seek the Lord your God from there, you will find him, if, indeed, you seek him with all your heart and soul.
Therefore take note that not one of the judgments the Lord announced against Ahab's dynasty has failed to materialize. The Lord had done what he announced through his servant Elijah."
So they started toward the Syrian camp at dusk. When they reached the edge of the Syrian camp, there was no one there.
But Uriah stayed at the door of the palace with all the servants of his lord. He did not go down to his house.
Now Gideon and his three hundred men had crossed over the Jordan River, and even though they were exhausted, they were still chasing the Midianites.
The mountains trembled before the Lord, the God of Sinai; before the Lord God of Israel.
Then the angel of the Lord stood in a path among the vineyards, where there was a wall on either side.
He hung the king of Ai on a tree, leaving him exposed until evening. At sunset Joshua ordered that his corpse be taken down from the tree. They threw it down at the entrance of the city gate and erected over it a large pile of stones (it remains to this very day).
It is a Sabbath of complete rest for you, and you must humble yourselves on the ninth day of the month in the evening, from evening until evening you must observe your Sabbath."
So too the tongue is a small part of the body, yet it has great pretensions. Think how small a flame sets a huge forest ablaze.
Joshua sent messengers who ran to the tent. The things were hidden right in his tent, with the silver underneath.
so that the righteous requirement of the law may be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
For all the people have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have tempted me now these ten times, and have not obeyed me,
Shem and Japheth took the garment and placed it on their shoulders. Then they walked in backwards and covered up their father's nakedness. Their faces were turned the other way so they did not see their father's nakedness.
Three times I was beaten with a rod. Once I received a stoning. Three times I suffered shipwreck. A night and a day I spent adrift in the open sea.

Then the priest will take a handful of the grain offering as its memorial portion, burn it on the altar, and afterward make the woman drink the water.
"Let me pass through your land; I will keep strictly to the roadway. I will not turn aside to the right or the left.
He then put all of them on the palms of Aaron and his sons, who waved them as a wave offering before the Lord.
I have experienced times of need and times of abundance. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of contentment, whether I go satisfied or hungry, have plenty or nothing.
Then the man will be free from iniquity, but that woman will bear the consequences of her iniquity.'"
"'If his offering is a votive or freewill sacrifice, it may be eaten on the day he presents his sacrifice, and also the leftovers from it may be eaten on the next day,
The Lord came down on Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain, and the Lord summoned Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
So he took me away in the Spirit to a huge, majestic mountain and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.
My confident hope is that I will in no way be ashamed but that with complete boldness, even now as always, Christ will be exalted in my body, whether I live or die.
All the men of his household, whether born in his household or bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.
Now the locusts looked like horses equipped for battle. On their heads were something like crowns similar to gold, and their faces looked like men's faces.
But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.
that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Then as they went into the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.
So Philip ran up to it and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. He asked him, "Do you understand what you're reading?"
He was not able to do a miracle there, except to lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.
Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing. Be clean!"
Jesus said to them, "No doubt you will quote to me the proverb, 'Physician, heal yourself!' and say, 'What we have heard that you did in Capernaum, do here in your hometown too.'"
And if those days had not been cut short, no one would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.
For recognition of the Lord's sovereign majesty will fill the earth just as the waters fill up the sea.
Then those who are far away will come and build the temple of the Lord so that you may know that the Lord who rules over all has sent me to you. This will all come to pass if you completely obey the voice of the Lord your God."'"
In the first year of King Belshazzar of Babylon, Daniel had a dream filled with visions while he was lying on his bed. Then he wrote down the dream in summary fashion.
Then the glory of the Lord arose from the cherub and moved to the threshold of the temple. The temple was filled with the cloud while the court was filled with the brightness of the Lord's glory.
O Samaria, he has rejected your calf idol! My anger burns against them! They will not survive much longer without being punished, even though they are Israelites!
"As for you, son of man, take a sharp sword and use it as a barber's razor. Shave off some of the hair from your head and your beard. Then take scales and divide up the hair you cut off.
What follows is divine revelation. The word of the Lord came to Israel through Malachi:
Listen to this, you elders; pay attention, all inhabitants of the land. Has anything like this ever happened in your whole life or in the lifetime of your ancestors?
They say, 'The time is not near to build houses; the city is a cooking pot and we are the meat in it.'
Bring us back to yourself, O Lord, so that we may return to you; renew our life as in days before,
He waits in ambush near the villages; in hidden places he kills the innocent. His eyes look for some unfortunate victim.
I have listened to them very carefully, but they do not speak honestly. None of them regrets the evil he has done. None of them says, "I have done wrong!" All of them persist in their own wayward course like a horse charging recklessly into battle.
Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner can destroy much that is good.
"Now a word was secretly brought to me, and my ear caught a whisper of it.
After him Palal son of Uzai worked opposite the buttress and the tower that protrudes from the upper palace of the court of the guard. After him Pedaiah son of Parosh
Maaziah, Bilgai, and Shemaiah. These were the priests.
After them Benjamin and Hasshub worked opposite their house. After them Azariah son of Maaseiah, the son of Ananiah, worked near his house.
"Your father made us work too hard! Now if you lighten the demands he made and don't make us work as hard, we will serve you."
He said to them, "Go away for three days, then return to me." So the people went away.
They placed his armor in the temple of their gods and hung his head in the temple of Dagon.
They sent for him and Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
But the high places were not eliminated; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense on the high places. He built the Upper Gate to the Lord's temple.
When they saw the chest was full of silver, the royal secretary and the high priest counted the silver that had been brought to the Lord's temple and bagged it up.
Naaman went and told his master what the girl from the land of Israel had said.
When the residents of Gibeon heard what Joshua did to Jericho and Ai,
The royal bodyguard took their stations, each holding his weapon in his hand. They lined up from the south side of the temple to the north side and stood near the altar and the temple, surrounding the king.
So they got up and fled at dusk, leaving behind their tents, horses, and donkeys. They left the camp as it was and ran for their lives.
He found another man and said, "Wound me!" So the man wounded him severely.
that the creation itself will also be set free from the bondage of decay into the glorious freedom of God's children.
The Ammonites marched out and were deployed for battle at the entrance of the city gate, while the men from Aram Zobah, Rehob, Ish-tob, and Maacah were by themselves in the field.
He said to the men of Succoth, "Give some loaves of bread to the men who are following me, because they are exhausted. I am chasing Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian."
Through the window she looked; Sisera's mother cried out through the lattice: 'Why is his chariot so slow to return? Why are the hoofbeats of his chariot-horses delayed?'
When you hear the signal from the ram's horn, have the whole army give a loud battle cry. Then the city wall will collapse and the warriors should charge straight ahead."
Then one day Jonathan son of Saul said to his armor bearer, "Come on, let's go over to the Philistine garrison that is opposite us." But he did not let his father know.
They captured the two Midianite generals, Oreb and Zeeb. They executed Oreb on the rock of Oreb and Zeeb in the winepress of Zeeb. They chased the Midianites and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon, who was now on the other side of the Jordan River.
Worthy of praise is the Most High God, who delivered your enemies into your hand." Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of everything.
So the young spies went and brought out Rahab, her father, mother, brothers, and all who belonged to her. They brought out her whole family and took them to a place outside the Israelite camp.
The Lord appeared to Abram and said, "To your descendants I will give this land." So Abram built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.
Go and tell them, 'Return to your tents!'
Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write this: 'Blessed are the dead, those who die in the Lord from this moment on!'" "Yes," says the Spirit, "so they can rest from their hard work, because their deeds will follow them."
to dispossess nations greater and stronger than you and brought you here this day to give you their land as your property.
or when jealous feelings come over a man and he becomes suspicious of his wife; then he must have the woman stand before the Lord, and the priest will carry out all this law upon her.
This is what Moses said to the assembly of Israel in the Transjordanian wastelands, the arid country opposite Suph, between Paran and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Di Zahab
when an individual becomes guilty with regard to one of these things he must confess how he has sinned,
In those days, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his people and observed their hard labor, and he saw an Egyptian man attacking a Hebrew man, one of his own people.
Now a river flows from Eden to water the orchard, and from there it divides into four headstreams.
This is the service of the families of the Gershonites concerning the tent of meeting. Their responsibilities will be under the authority of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.
Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron:
From the sons of Joseph: From the descendants of Ephraim: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name.
and also seven of every kind of bird in the sky, male and female, to preserve their offspring on the face of the earth.
A certain one of them, in fact, one of their own prophets, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons."
I do not set aside God's grace, because if righteousness could come through the law, then Christ died for nothing!
The beast was given a mouth speaking proud words and blasphemies, and he was permitted to exercise ruling authority for forty-two months.
But the scripture imprisoned everything and everyone under sin so that the promise could be given -- because of the faithfulness of Jesus Christ -- to those who believe.
One person believes in eating everything, but the weak person eats only vegetables.

The bones of these people will never be regathered and reburied. They will be like manure used to fertilize the ground.
I will shoot against them deadly, destructive arrows of famine, which I will shoot to destroy you. I will prolong a famine on you and will remove the bread supply.
The one far away will die by pestilence, the one close by will fall by the sword, and whoever is left and has escaped these will die by famine. I will fully vent my rage against them.

After Joseph bought a linen cloth and took down the body, he wrapped it in the linen and placed it in a tomb cut out of the rock. Then he rolled a stone across the entrance of the tomb.

Jesus answered them, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' it will happen.
So Pilate said, "Do you refuse to speak to me? Don't you know I have the authority to release you, and to crucify you?"
"Awake, sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is my associate," says the Lord who rules over all. Strike the shepherd that the flock may be scattered; I will turn my hand against the insignificant ones.

(Nun) They wander blindly through the streets, defiled by the blood they shed, while no one dares to touch their garments.
You have killed many people in this city; you have filled its streets with corpses.'
I will stretch out my hand against them and make the land a desolate waste from the wilderness to Riblah, in all the places where they live. Then they will know that I am the Lord!"
Let cries of terror be heard in their houses when you send bands of raiders unexpectedly to plunder them. For they have virtually dug a pit to capture me and have hidden traps for me to step into.
"You and your people are right in saying, 'War, starvation, and disease are sure to make this city fall into the hands of the king of Babylon.' But now I, the Lord God of Israel, have something further to say about this city:
