Blessed are you when men shall hate you, and when they shall exclude you from their company, and reproach and cast out your names as evil, on account of the Son of man.

And if you love those that love you, what thanks have you? for sinners also love those that love them.

And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what thanks have you? sinners also lend to sinners, to receive back as much again.

How can you say to your brother, Brother, let me cast out the speck in your eye, and you yourself see not the beam in your own eye? Hypocrite, cast out first the beam from your eye, and then you will see clearly to cast out the speck from your brother's eye.

And Jesus answered and said to them, Go and tell John what you have seen and heard; that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the good news preached to them;

And when the messengers of John had gone away, he said to the multitudes concerning John, What went you out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with a wind?

But what went you out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Behold, those who wear fine clothes, and live in luxury, are in royal palaces.

But what went you out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

This is he of whom it is written; Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who shall prepare your way before you.

[And he said], To what then shall I compare the men of this generation? and what are they like?
