As it is written and forever remains in the [writings of the] prophet Isaiah:

Behold, I send My messenger ahead of You,
Who will prepare Your way—

from Isa. 40:3], "Look, I am sending my messenger on ahead of you. He will prepare the way for you.

He was preaching: “Someone more powerful than I will come after me. I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the strap of His sandals.

While Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew. They were throwing a net into the sea because they were fishermen.

Immediately they left their nets and followed Him [becoming His disciples, believing and trusting in Him and following His example].

Immediately Jesus called to them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired workers, and went away to follow Him [becoming His disciples, believing and trusting in Him and following His example].

So, they went to Capernaum [Note: This was a city in Galilee that later became Jesus' headquarters while in Galilee. See verse

And they were astonished at His teaching; for Ile was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

when all at once, there in their synagogue, a man under the power of a foul spirit screamed out:

Saying, What have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? have you come to put an end to us? I see well who you are, the Holy One of God.

Now Simon's mother-in-law was ill in bed with a fever, and without delay they informed Him about her.

And he came and took her by the hand, lifting her up; and she became well, and took care of their needs.

He said to them, "Let us go on to the next towns so that I can preach there also, for this was why I came out [i.e., Jesus was sent by God to preach to other towns as well as Capernaum. See Luke 4:43]."

and there doth come to him a leper, calling on him, and kneeling to him, and saying to him -- 'If thou mayest will, thou art able to cleanse me.'

and while he was speaking, the leprosy left him in an instant, and he was cur'd.

But he went out and began to proclaim it freely and to spread the news [of his healing], to such an extent that Jesus could no longer openly enter a city [where He was known], but stayed out in the unpopulated places; yet people were still coming to Him from everywhere.

And so many people collected together, that after a while there was no room for them even round the door; and he began to tell them his Message.

While he was speaking his message, they came bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four men.

And when they were unable to get near him because of all the people, they got the roof uncovered where he was: and when it was broken up, they let down the bed on which the man was.

Immediately Jesus, being fully aware [of their hostility] and knowing in His spirit that they were thinking this, said to them, “Why are you debating and arguing about these things in your hearts?

Which is the simpler, to say to a man who is ill, You have forgiveness for your sins, or, Get up, take up your bed, and go?

But, so you will know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins (He then said to the paralyzed man),

While He was reclining at the table in Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were also guests with Jesus and His disciples, because there were many who were following Him.

Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were keeping a fast, and people came and asked Jesus: "Why is it that John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, while yours do not?"

"No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; if he does, the new piece will pull away from the old, and the tear is made worse.

And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

and from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and [from the region] beyond the Jordan, and around Tyre and Sidon; a vast number of people came to Him because they were hearing about all [the things] that He was doing.

So He told His disciples to keep a little boat ready for Him all the time, to prevent the crowds from crushing Him.

and the impure spirits, as soon as they beheld him, were falling down to him, and crying aloud, while he was speaking, Thou, art the Son of God!

Soon a crowd assembled again so that they could not even eat a meal [i.e., without people crowding all around them].

When His relatives [or friends] heard about this [i.e., all that He was doing], they went out to take custody of Him [for safety reasons?], for people were saying, "He has lost his mind."

If there is division in a kingdom, that kingdom will come to destruction;

And if Satan is at war with himself, and there is division in him, he will not keep his place but will come to an end.

But whoever says evil things against the Holy Spirit will never have forgiveness, but the evil he has done will be with him for ever:

Jesus said all this because these experts in the law of Moses had been saying, "He has an evil spirit in him."

And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.

He began teaching them many things in parables. While he was teaching them he said,

And it happened that while [he] was sowing, {some seed} fell on the side of the path, and the birds came and devoured it.

And other seed fell into good soil, and as the plants grew and increased, they yielded a crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a hundred times [as much as had been sown].”

So that seeing they may see, and it will not be clear to them; and hearing it, they will not get the sense; for fear that they may be turned again to me and have forgiveness.

and they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway they stumble.

And those [in the last group] are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word [of God, the good news regarding the way of salvation] and accept it and bear fruit—thirty, sixty, and a hundred times as much [as was sown].”

For nothing is secret except so that it may be revealed, nor has become hidden except so that it will come to light.

Let all who have ears to hear with hear.

Then He said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear. By your own standard of measurement [that is, to the extent that you study spiritual truth and apply godly wisdom] it will be measured to you [and you will be given even greater ability to respond]—and more will be given to you besides.

For whoever has [a teachable heart], to him more [understanding] will be given; and whoever does not have [a yearning for truth], even what he has will be taken away from him.”

and he goes to bed at night and gets up every day, and [in the meantime] the seed sprouts and grows; how [it does this], he does not know.

All by itself the earth produces grainfirst the blade, then the head, then the full kernel in the head.

But as soon as the crop will let him, the man goes in with his sickle, for the harvest time has come.

He said, "How will we liken the Kingdom of God? Or with what parable will we illustrate it?

But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

Jesus immediately gave them leave. and the impure spirits quitting the possessed, entred into the swine, and the whole herd, which were about two thousand, ran down a precipice into the sea, and were there stifled.

Those who had been feeding them ran and told what all occurred in the town and around the countryside and [so] people came to find out what had happened.

And those who had seen it told them the particulars of what had happened to the demoniac, and all about the swine.

And he did not permit him, but said to him, "Go to your home to your [people] and tell them all that the Lord has done for you, and [that] he has had mercy on you."

When Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around Him while He was by the sea.

And there was a woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years ??26 she had suffered a great deal under a number of doctors and had spent all her means but was none the better; in fact she was rather worse.

And straight away the fountain of her blood was stopped, and she had a feeling in her body that her disease had gone and she was well.
