Thus said the Lord Jehovah to Edom, A report we have heard from Jehovah, And an ambassador among nations was sent, 'Rise, yea, let us rise against her for battle.'

“If thieves came to you,
If robbers by night—
How you will be ruined!—
Would they not steal only until they had enough?
If grape gatherers came to you,
Would they not leave some grapes for gleaning?

Up to the boundary, have they sent thee - All thy covenant men, they have deceived thee, prevailed against thee - the men thou wast wont to salute, - The partakers of thy bread, have put a net under thee - No understanding in him!

Was it not in that day, says Jehovah, and I destroyed the wise out of Edom, and understanding from mount Esau?

In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.

“Do not gaze and gloat [in triumph] over your brother’s day,
The day when his misfortune came.
Do not rejoice over the sons of Judah
In the day of their destruction;
Do not speak arrogantly [jeering and maliciously mocking]
In the day of their distress.

And in mount Zion shall be an escaping and there was holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.

And the house of Jacob was a fire, and the house of Joseph for a flame, and the house of Esau for straw; and they burned in them, and they devoured them; and a survivor shall not be to the house of Esau, for Jehovah spake.

And survivors came up into mount Zion to judge the mount Esau; and the kingdom was to Jehovah.
